How to Apply for a Birth Certificate Online?
To apply for a birth certificate online visit http://crsorgi.gov.in/ and sign up by filling valid details.
Later click on the general public tab to apply for birth certificate. In the extended window fill the details like place of birth, username, date of birth, city, district, and state along with your mobile number.
If your user name is active it means your area is valid for online registration of birth certificate. Enter the verification code and click on the register. On completing the registration an email will be sent to confirm. The email will also ask you to set a new password. Change your password and resign in.
On resigning into the site a form will appear, fill the form with the name of your child, parents’ name, and the location. Submit the filled birth certificate form after 24 hours. Take the print of the birth certificate form and get it attested by registrar or sub-registrar.
How to Apply for a Birth Certificate Offline?
Birth certificates can be obtained in India offline.
For this, visit your nearest Municipal corporation office and collect a birth certificate application form. Fill the birth certificate form and submit it along with the letter issued at the hospital at the time of birth by the medical person in – charge.
Upon receiving the application for a birth certificate, the municipal office will conduct a verification process and issue the certificate within 7 – 15 days. The certificate will be sent to the registered address mentioned in the form via post.
It is important to fill a birth certificate form and submit it within 21 days of your baby’s birth. In case the form is not submitted within 21 days police verification will take place before issuing the certificate.

- Letter issued by the hospital at the time of birth or by a medical record officer
- Affidavit issued by the SDM
- Photo Copy of ration card
- School leaving certificate
- Parents’ birth certificate/ marriage certificate and identity proof.
